Andaman & Nicobar Islands

Arrayed beside the south eastern and western coasts of India, the Andaman, Nicobar and Lakshwadeep Islands together offer exotic getaways for a traveller after experiencing the kaleidoscope of mainland India. The Andaman and Nicobar islands form an archipelago in the Bay of Bengal and a few are home to the only known paleolithic tribe, the Sentinelese. Comprising of 325 islands, the Ten Degree Channel separates the Andamans from the Nicobar Islands to the south. The islands have a history stretching further back in time than the period of colonial rule of which there are numerous remanents dotting the islands. With a topography largely consisting of moist deciduous forests, mangroves and pristine sun drenched beaches, the islands are also home to a fascinating diversity of flora and fauna.

With the administrative capital situated in Port Blair, the largest islands in the archipelago are Havelock, Neil and South Andaman and the lengthy stretches of white sand beaches provide are perfect for a relaxing beach holiday with opportunities to engage in snorkelling, scuba diving, surfing, para gliding, rides on glass bottomed boats, under sea walks and water scooter rides. The Wandoor beach near Port Blair is excellent for swimming besides beaches # 7 and #5 on Havelock Island. Other attractions in Port Blair include the historic cellular jail, anthropological and marine museums, water sports complex and the Chatham Saw Mill.
